St. Jerome's University in Ontario Celebrates Sisters' Contributions

Sisters celebrating in Ontario

St. Jerome’s University President and Vice Chancellor Katherine Bergman hosted a gathering for religious in the Hamilton Diocese. Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, recognized and celebrated the support and contributions of women and men religious in his diocese. Blessed with a weather-perfect day, the outdoor barbecue took place on Resurrection Manor’s patio in Waterloo, Ontario.

As attendees feasted picnic-style, School Sisters of Notre Dame and the Congregation of the Resurrection religious enjoyed reminiscing how as partners they laid the foundation for the Catholic school system in Waterloo County.

In just 3½ years, SSNDs will be celebrating their 150th anniversary of faith development and transformative education in the Hamilton Diocese. In 1871 Mother Caroline, at the invitation of Fr. Eugene Funcken, CR, invited SSNDs to St. Agatha, ON, Canada, and, from there, we spread across the diocese, and beyond.
