Find a Sister

S. Anne Mayer Honored by Paluch Family Foundation
October 15, 2008

On October 15, 2008, S. Anne Mayer of the Chicago area was recognized by the Paluch Family Foundation with its 2008 Stewardship Award, A Gift of Dignity.  Sister Anne was cited for the foundation of SisterHouse a ministry which serves women struggling with substance abuse.  At its annual dinner, the foundation gave Sister Anne a sculpted piece of a woman caring for others.  Sister Anne is donating the art to SisterHouse.  SisterHouse also received a grant of $7,500 for continuing her ministry to marginalized, poor women.

Sister Anne began SisterHouse in 1982 with the support of other SSND’s and the Institute for Women Today.  She was 77 when SisterHouse welcomed its first resident.  She continued in this ministry until 1992.  She will celebrate her 103rd birthday on November 12, 2008.

A Paluch Family Foundation Board member attended the SisterHouse 25th anniversary Gala, where he was so impressed with Sister Anne’s dedicated commitment to bring others to Christ and the mission of SisterHouse that he recommended her to the Foundation.  As Sister Anne said, she is still “preparing for a better world.”
