St. Saviour High School Students Excel In Tomorrow’s Competitive Fields
September 17, 2008
Historically known for academic excellence, St. Saviour High School in Park Slope is increasingly gaining recognition as a place where young women can get ahead in a competitive world. This past year, St. Saviour boasted a large number of graduates planning to enter fields like science, math, pharmacy, architecture and engineering.
Other students excel in the area of criminal justice. For the second year running, St. Saviour High School junior Alyssa Alaimo was a winner in the “Police Commissioner for a Day” essay contest. Alyssa was honored at an awards ceremony at 1 Police Plaza and then spent the remainder of the day serving as Commanding Officer of the 78th Precinct. In the course of her very busy day, Alyssa approved the promotion of a police officer and conducted role call.
The faculty takes pride in the fact that nearly 100 percent of the recent graduates have gone on to four-year colleges. In 1999, St. Saviour High School achieved national recognition as an “outstanding school” on the list of the top 96 high schools across the United States, in a research program conducted at the University of Chicago. The curriculum at St. Saviour exceeds all the latest N.Y.S. Regents requirements.
The academic excellence initiated by the School Sisters of Notre Dame continues to offer the girls a challenging academic program, steeped in faith, justice and peace. Embedded in their teachings are the changing roles of women in today’s society and the responsibilities and privileges that accompany those roles.
Advanced Placement (A.P.) courses are offered in English Language and Composition and American History on the junior year level, English Literature and Composition, European History, French, Latin, Psychology, Calculus and Chemistry at the senior level.
