Help us remember our Sisters by sharing a story about a Sister who touched your life, or making a gift in their honor.
Sister Irene Marie Hughes was educated by SSNDs and found them "joyful and caring.” After her novitiate year, she was sent to Puerto Rico and fell in love with the island, spending 19 years there. Eventually, teaching ESL classes at Caroline House in Bridgeport, she wrote “I found this to the perfect place at this time in my life.” She moved to The Watermark in 2021. We remember and give thanks for Irene 's generous spirit among us.
Sister Mary Margaret was a dedicated teacher, helping students in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago through the years. As a leader of SSND Associates at St Columba she assisted many. Her life of service continued in retirement at Marian Village in Homer Glen, Illinois. May Mary Margaret rest in peace.
Creative, caring, generous, and perceptive are some of the words used to describe Sister Maria Natividad. For 70 years, Natividad served the SSND mission in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Puerto Rico. No matter the location or service she provided “She was always in the right place at the right time, ministering gracefully and peacefully.” We continue to thank God for the gift of Natividad and celebrate her entrance into eternal life.
In death, we say our ultimate human yes to God. Trusting in God’s power to bring us to the fullness of life, we conclude our earthly life with an act of worship: in the action of death we proclaim God as God, and ourselves as God’s creatures. We are called by God and sent by the community; we go in joy!
