Jubliarians at 3030 Park, Bridgeport, CT, enjoyed a festive celebration Oct. 25 with Sisters, family, and friends in attendance. The photos are courtesy of Sister Maria Iannuccillo.
Did you ever own a treasure chest? Did you ever imagine owning one?
It may have been in the attic of your home, or in your mind’s eye as you watched cartoons as a child or movies as an adult.
I daresay we have a treasure chest in SSND that can be opened today to enjoy its contents. No, it is not a replica of the trunks you entered with 60 or 70 years ago.
(Sue probably didn’t enter with a trunk 25 years ago—perhaps hers was disguised as a computer!)
We do not have treasures of silver and gold to open, nor boxes or chests of tea from the Boston Tea Party of yesteryear!
What we have is a group of Sister Jubilarians who are each a gift and treasure to our community. As the first reading states: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.”
That you have faithfully accomplished in your many years of religious life.
Our second reading from Trust and Dare, states Mother Theresa’s words that remind us: “In and with God everything is possible.”
You lived those words as you may have faced challenging times in community, in ministry, in our world.
You have laid down your gifts, your life, for your friends and to whomever God called you.
You followed the command in today’s Gospel: “Love one another.”
We are grateful to God for having chosen you and appointed you.
You have born fruit that will remain.
So Sisters Mary Ann, Mary Rose, Elizabeth Ann, Anne, Francis, Marie deSales, Maureen, John Vianney, and Sue:
We rejoice in the treasure that you are to SSND. Let us rejoice as we begin our liturgy with praising God for all of you in our opening hymn Be Exalted!
