On a bright and beautiful Sunday, SSND-Waterdown gathered to celebrate International Women’s Day.
This year’s global theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” offered a meaningful focus for reflection and conversation throughout the afternoon.
To honour the theme, we shared stories of inspiring women from history and around the world who have contributed to social justice, education, courage, and change.
Printed story sheets were placed around the room so the Sisters could read and discuss the lives of women such as Cleopatra, Michelle Obama, Helen Keller, Anne Frank, Marie Curie, Frida Kahlo, Rosa Luxemburg, Joan of Arc, Maria Montessori, and Simone de Beauvoir.
Each story reminded us of the strength, resilience, and determination of women who have helped shape our world in different ways.
Our Sisters have spent years believing in and working for social justice, so these stories resonated deeply.
It was inspiring to hear them share their own perspectives and experiences.
Our gathering included tea, coffee, and a delicious variety of treats which everyone enjoyed together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
It was a simple yet meaningful celebration — a time to honour the contributions of women past and present, to share stories, and to appreciate the community and spirit of the Sisters who continue to embody the values of justice, compassion, and service.
